All the Muslims worldwide celebrate Eid ulFitr on the first day of the Shawwal month, thanking Allah for providing them with health and resistance through the month-long fasting period known as Ramzan or Ramadan.

History
During the holy month of Ramzan, Prophet Muhammad is said to have had his first glimpse of the Holy Quran. Eid al-Fitr marked Ramadan’s fasting from dawn to sunset and the start of the Shawwal month. People all around Asia wore masks and prayed for Eid al-Fitr, but COVID-19 restrictions were in place in many cities, limiting the happy mass gatherings and family reunions that the Muslim holiday is known for.

MOSQUES ARE CLOSED
Eid begins at different times in different countries, depending on when local religious authorities observe the moon.
Celebrations in India are likely to be muted, as roughly two-thirds of the country is under some form of movement restriction due to the difficult COVID-19 situation.
Eid prayer sessions at major mosques in New Delhi and other cities would be confined to between five and ten clerics and staff and will not be open to the general public.
Some smaller mosques will close entirely, with clerics urging believers to pray at home.
The health system in India has been overwhelmed by an increase in coronavirus cases and deaths, leaving many patients without oxygen, hospital beds, or proper treatment.

CONFLICT’S SHADOW
Many Muslims commemorated Eid amid historical and present violence.

Worshippers gathered in the iconic but largely devastated 7th-century al-Masfi mosque in Mosul, Iraq, which was heavily damaged in the long fight between Iraqi forces and the Islamic State militant group that concluded in 2017.
